Nikka Yoichi Single Malt Whiskey

Nikka Yoichi Single Malt Japanese Whiskey shows the characteristics of Nikka’s first distillery built in 1934, located on the coast of Hokkaido, the northernmost island of Japan. The founder Masataka Taketsuru chose Yoichi in Hokkaido because of the similar environmental conditions to Scotland, where he learned whiskey making. Crafted using methods from the past, such as direct coal heating, the Yoichi Single Malt truly captures the authentic character of its exceptional location, with its refined coastal and peat notes.

Nikka Yoichi Single Malt has described as bold and robust. Pleasant peaty notes and smokiness originating from the traditional direct coal-fired distillation and a briny hint delivered by the sea breeze during the aging process. A subtle blend of Yoichi casks of various ages, of which a significant portion was matured in ex-sherry casks, the perfect representative of Nikka’s historic single malt expresses a delicate balance between smoky, fruity and floral aromas.

It has a vibrant gold color. The nose is full-bodied and smooth with mellow peat and salty notes at first. Then candied citrus fruit, black licorice, spices, roots, and dried twig with heady and floral notes. It has a firm and sturdy palate with peat, smoke, spices, fresh fruit, nuts, and chocolate notes. The finish is long and silky with ripe fruit, herbaceous and malty flavors, coastal freshness, spicy and earthy notes. Enjoy!
