Mezcal Vago believes in walking away from the beaten path, losing ourselves in the hills, and searching out the extraordinary. It harvests over 15 species of agave across the region, with some being of the most wild and rare. Because of the scarcity of mature agave and the difficulty in harvesting them, these expressions bring uniqueness and scarcity to each batch. Mezcals made from Tepeztate are very distinct, with a powerful, unique aroma dominated by floral characteristics.

Temo and Mateo García are sixth-generation mezcaleros living in the village of Candelaria Yegole, nestled in the river canyons of the eastern edge of the Sierra Madre del Sur. Taking over the family ranch and palenque in 2020, the brothers carry on the legacy of their father, Aquilino García Lopez, a fifth-generation mezcalero and Co-founder of Mezcal Vago.
