White Wine | Cortese
La Scolca Piedmont Gavi dei Gavi Black Label White Wine 2016 is the "Grand Cru" of the appellation. First released in 1966, this is the original or benchmark Gavi, which brought fame to the small wine-producing region and showed the world the potential for white wines from Piedmont, Italy. Sourced from the estate's oldest Cortese vines, averaging over 60 years of age, these are among the oldest in the appellation.
This La Scolca Gavi Black Label has a pale straw color with delicate greenish highlights. It offers intense lemon citrus fruit with floral and flinty notes on the nose, comparable to Chablis's best wines. It is medium-bodied, with apple and more citrus fruit on the palate and notes of almonds and hazelnuts. The finish is crisp, refreshing, and long.
This wine has bottled at 11.5% alcohol by volume and excellent with any meal and the usual pairings with fish, shellfish, seafood, white meats, fowl, and light meats. It is also ideal as an aperitif and after dinner. It is best to serve at 8-10° C. Enjoy!
