Nikka Miyagikyo Single Malt Whiskey

Nikka Miyagikyo Single Malt Japanese Whiskey shows Miyagikyo distillery's characteristics, Nikka's second distillery built-in 1969. The founder Masataka Taketsuru chose this site in the mountains of Sendai to contrast with his first distillery, Yoichi, which is located in the coastal area. Made from 100% malted barley and distilled in pot stills that are heated with steam instead of a coal fire, Nikka Miyagikyo Single Malt Whiskey is then aged in ex-sherry casks. This whiskey is described as soft and fruity. Using less peaty malt, it is distilled in a pot still heated by indirect steam at a low temperature. Miyagikyo Single Malt has an elegant fruitiness and a distinctive aroma with a strong Sherry cask influence. It has a deep gold color with a full-flavored and rich nose. It offers iris, malted barley, exotic fruit (banana), licorice and camphor with burnt wood, flowers, and beeswax. It is firm, lively and elegant on the palate with malted barley, licorice, spices (ginger, cinnamon), chocolate and herbaceous notes with fresh tobacco leaves and coconut. The finish is long and soft with hints of wilted roses, tangy notes (lemon, grapefruit), tobacco, spices (cardamom, ginger), toasted nuts, stewed fruits (apple, damson) and exotic aromas (lychee). This Single Malt Japanese Whiskey pairs well with dried fruits, almonds, sheep's milk cheese (manchego, pecorino), or cured meat. Enjoy it straight or on the rocks!
